With a two-day kick-off meeting on September 21./22. 2022, SPP 2377 has taken up work. The event was hosted by Wolfgang Lehner and his team at TU Dresden, who provided a warm welcome to 52 participants at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids and the Faculty of Computer Science of TU Dresden.
The first day started with an overview of the priority program by Olaf Spinczyk and a keynote by Dieter Kasper, who gave an introduction to persistent memory and the challenges it still imposes in the data-center, current developments around CXL, and addressed the problem of Optane being discontinued by Intel.
Then the first projects presented their plans for the first funding period of the SPP, accompanied by inspiring discussions. The first day was rounded up by a social event with bavarian-style food and drinks in the Stadtwaldschlösschen.
On day two the project presentations continued and were accompanied by a poster session during an extended coffee break with the opportunity to discuss ideas in a more personal environment. After the coordination project had presented ideas for upcoming events and activities, plans for a central hardware platform and a first round of mini-workshops were discussed. Finally, Gustavo Alonso gave a keynote in a joint session with the members of SPP 2037.
